The Right Tax Preparer = A Micro-Scale CFO

If your business is pulling in less than $1 million in revenue, you might not be in the market for a fractional CFO—but that doesn’t mean you don’t need strategic financial guidance. A good tax preparer should act as a micro-scale version of a CFO, helping you plan, not just look backward at what you owe.

At a minimum, they should meet with you in the Fall to strategize before year-end. But if you’re considering any major financial moves in 2025—like expanding, hiring more staff, or making big equipment purchases—you’ll want to schedule a meeting before June.

Why? Because getting a second financial mind involved in your decision-making can surface ideas you might not have thought about. Maybe there’s a tax credit you didn’t realize you qualified for or a different way to structure your purchases that saves you money. The earlier you have those conversations, the more options you have.

Don’t Settle for a "Once-a-Year" Tax Preparer

If your tax person only pops up around filing season, they do the bare minimum. A good tax preparer proactively helps you save money and make smarter financial decisions all year. If yours isn’t doing that, it might be time to find someone who will.
